International oil and gas company INPEX has signed an historic agreement with the Larrakia Development Corporation (LDC) over the Ichthys gas project. Chief Minister Paul Henderson was present as LDC Chairman Koolpinyah Barnes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with INPEX Browse Managing Director Sieya Ito in Tokyo.
The MOU will create a long-term partnership between INPEX and the LDC and ensure Indigenous Territorians benefit from the jobs and business prospects the project will bring. The signing acknowledges the Larrakia people’s aim to secure a strong economic future to improve the lives of all Indigenous Territorians.
INPEX's proposed $23 billion project is the largest private sector investment in the Northern Territory's history. It is expected to create 2000 jobs during peak construction and a further 300 new, ongoing jobs.
